LICA is a community-based not-for-profit association in which all activities are overseen by a volunteer-based Board of Directors and appointed committees. Such activities are driven by 3 main directions: environmental monitoring, environmental management, and community education and outreach.

LICA collects, shares and acts upon credible data, Indigenous Knowledge and information relevant to the environment. This will be achieved through scientific study, community engagement and meaningful partnerships.

POLICIES AND BYLAWS
Board of Directors
LICA is governed by a multi-stakeholder Board of Directors responsible for overseeing the administration and governance of the organization. As the decision-makers of the association, the Board of Directors ensures the successful implementation of LICA’s Strategic Plan and Annual Work Plans in accordance with its Vision, Mission, and Values. All decisions are made using a consensus decision-making model.
Governance & Administration
Governed under the Societies Act and guided by its established bylaws and policies, LICA adeptly implements its Strategic Plan and Annual Work Plans through the coordinated efforts of its employees, contracted personnel, and appointed committees.
Stakeholder Engagement
Under the leadership of the Executive Director, in collaboration with the Program Managers, LICA formulates Communication Strategies that are executed throughout the delivery of diverse Board-approved events, programs, and Stakeholder Engagement initiatives.
Education and Outreach
Under the leadership of LICA's Education and Outreach (E&O) Coordinator, with guidance from an appointed committee, LICA strategically plans, coordinates, and executes education and outreach events, programs, and activities throughout the LICA region. These Board-approved initiatives aim to cultivate awareness and foster environmental stewardship within communities.
Community & Place Based Monitoring
Under the leadership of LICA’s Environmental Monitoring Programs Manager, in collaboration with LICA’s Data and Reporting Specialist, LICA implements a Regional Air Monitoring Program that employs a variety of methods to monitor ambient air quality. With guidance from an appointed committee, LICA also implements an Acid Deposition Monitoring Program that employs a variety of methods to monitor changes in forest soils and acid-sensitive lakes to meet the needs of regional regulatory compliance acid deposition monitoring and reporting requirements.
Environmental Management Programs
Under the leadership of LICA’s Environmental Coordinator, with guidance from an appointed committee, LICA strategically plans, coordinates, and executes watershed management planning and projects within the Beaver River watershed. In partnership with the Government of Alberta LICA supports the implementation of the Water for Life Strategy and works towards achieving the goals and key directions of Water for Life in the Beaver River watershed.
Biodiversity, Air, Soil, and Water
LICA’s initiatives are rooted in these fundamental environmental components.
